Transformer Station
Words of the French poet Alphonse de Lamartine when he saw the Skull Tower while passing through the city of Nis in 1833: “May the Serbs keep this monument. It will always teach their children the value of the independence of a nation, showing them the real price their fathers had to pay for it.“

Lust for Life
"Rex" is an independent cultural center, placed in a building constructed in 1923. The land where it was built belonged to the Jewish municipality and the purpose of the building was to offer the Jews of the Dorcol borough a pleasant place to gather in large numbers and perform religious ceremonies.
I like the facade inscription placed above the entrance in Hebrew and in Serbian: "Do not reject me when I am old or abandon me when I lose my strength."
And on a plaque above the house number, it is written in Serbian: Lust for Life.

Cursed Hole
The area was owned by one of the richest people in the city before WW2. After the war it was "nationalized" by a communist government and was an abandoned construction site for decades. In my childhood years (1980s) a sundial was installed on the site so at least it was interesting for us, kids. But Serbian "nouveau riche" had some development plans so the sundial was removed in early 1990s. After that it was one of the ugliest spots in the city center - a fenced area hosting stray dogs and Roma refugees. Few years back, the area was landscaped and transformed into a small park.
But nothing helps - it still looks weird, deserted and artificial.
